Making Money While Talking About Money
The money gurus are fake. I said it and here is the truth.
You have seen it everywhere. Articles upon articles with “5 step formula to success”, “3 ways the rich think”, “10 habits to accumulate fortune” etc. Even I have done it. I have written articles upon articles on how to start on Upwork and I am also guilty for consuming an obnoxious amount of content on topics “how to build wealth” so I had my fair share of cringe.
When I was a little bit younger and inexperienced I thought that if I read 10 articles on how people made wealth overnight I will become rich and successful. I even thought that coping these people will, somehow, make me rich and successful. The truth is that it never happened.
The global idea behind these types of articles is to act, think, and feel as you are rich and successful and you will be rich and successful. But honestly, do you think Elon Musk or any of the multimillionaires of our century sat down and read “guides” on how to build wealth? No.
Let’s take a step back.
The internet today is overflown with articles on making money and convincing people that money is something easily acquired, available to everyone, and most of us are the only obstacle to that secret.
The sad truth is that people who write these articles make money from people consuming those articles. Every click, every share, every comment is pouring money into their pockets and taking away your precious time.
Don’t get me wrong here, I am not saying that you shouldn’t read and educate yourself as much as possible, I am saying that you should be mindful about the content you consume and the way you consume it.
Just reading article upon article and practicing cold showers or gluten-free diet causes the false reality that you are doing something meaningful, going somewhere important. The timelines you create following these gurus advice and the mantras you say every day are only taking you further from your dreams. Being stuck in a reality where you believe that you are doing something is worse than sitting and doing absolutely nothing.
In the real world out there, millionaires don’t read these articles, they don’t even pay attention to these “guides” or “help”, instead they just go for it, do it without fear or necessary knowledge and just figure out things along the way.
There is this common misconception that you need to drop out of college and just pursue your dreams because Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg did so and they are now super successful and rich. But there is a deeper and darker truth to these false claims and that is that these people were insane and smart enough to just go out there and do stuff. They had no idea what was going on until one of the things they were doing just clicked and suddenly the world accepted their inventions. Again, do you think Mark was at the floor of his dorm reading “5 habits of rich people?” I don’t think so and if you believe this stop lying to yourself.
Don’t drop out of school. Just don’t do it. Even if you hate it, even if you don’t agree, go and study what is important for you and give the bare minimum to the things that are not important. Go sign up for a course or seminar that suits your career, swap the how-to guides with to-do lists, and just go and do it.
I am sorry but there is no universal guide to success, there is no list that will give you the steps to success, there is no formula to success because every story is unique and different.
Always remember that while you are sitting on the couch and reading or following “guru moneymaker important advice” someone else is cashing on it and that is not you.
Moving forward.
Just do it.
No seriously, go and do it. You don’t need guides, you don’t need steps or formula. You need you and your desire and belief. That will work 100%.
Good Luck!
