The Tech Mogul I Married
Sometimes I feel like I am married to Elon Musk.
My phone says 9h and 3m of screen time for today and other days are not less than 8h. I keep my phone on silent at all times but there are new notifications all the time.
I am connected and yet so disconnected from reality.
I feel like I am not the only one. The incredibly fast pace of modern living requires to be connected at all times. I have Facebook, Instagram to keep in touch with my friends and family, Asana, Slack, and Trello to keep in touch with my boss, Whatsapp, Viber, and Messenger to text or call someone and 10 more applications to make my life more interesting.
I feel like we lost connection with the outside world like we are all the time on the phone. Everything at every possible moment is done for Instagram.
I have read that many influencers say that they have a completely normal and ordinary life behind the camera but I am not sure when they manage to have that normal life between Instagram pictures, stories, youtube videos, tik toks…
I want to think that I have a pretty normal life and yet I have 9h of screen time from 24h in a day. Sometimes I feel like my phone is this big tech mogul and I am simply married to him. The other logical excuse would be me marrying Elon Musk and planning our new home on Mars.

The constant beeping, rigging, clicking, flickering, tapping is making the world spin faster. Do this now, don’t do this now. Take a picture, record your memories, act when you are on camera.
Open your laptop, handwritten essays are not accepted anymore. Of course, that this job can be done remotely you just need a computer. I am bored let us watch another Youtube video.
There is something new going on in the world turn the TV on to get the latest news. Open your phone message with your friends. Like, comment, share, and do it all over again. Of course, the world needs to hear the thoughts you copied from someone else.
Stop.
Social media is ruining our lives and at the same time, it’s making them so much better.

I never understood the weird obsession of my teachers to assign us essays that are for 5th grade while we were 6th semester. However, there was always this lingering topic of Advantages and disadvantages of social media.
I disliked this topic and I thought that it is shallow and not important for college students but with time I understood the true meaning behind it.
The whole idea grew so much in my brain that I even created a persona for this online world. I called it — the tech mogul.
I and the tech mogul has an amazing connection. He was there when I was sad, had all the answers to my questions, never failed to amaze me.
Slowly the tech mogul was not only social media but the entire online world. It was the perfect person I could imagine.
With time we married and we go to 9h screen time in a day.
